Carol Barbee Interview on the Future of Jericho

Carol Barbee recently chatted with Broadcasting & Cable’s Marisa Guthrie about the Nuts Campaign and the renewal of Jericho for seven episodes, and talked about the future of the show.

Will Jericho live beyond the seven episodes?

We are not closing this story out. We have a story to tell. It’s a really rich story, and we’ve got it mapped out for quite a while. The network suggested doing a two-hour movie to wrap up this story. We weren’t in any way interested in closing it down.

When CBS came back to us, they said, “We only have time and space on our sound stage for you to do a limited number of episodes.â€? So we’ll do those with the intention that we’ll be back.

She also spoke of how the long hiatus model of Lost and 24, the same one that hurt Jericho, at least in the CBS world-view has been removed from the outlook of most serial dramas, which I’m very happy to hear.

Hat-tip to TV Squad.

I have to agree with the folks at TV Squad, this seems overly optimistic to the point of crazy. It also sounds disrespectful to the fans who fought so hard to bring the show back. Fans wanted to see the answers to big questions, like who was behind the bombs and why, and there are ways to make sure they get those answers while still leaving the door open for more stories if by some miracle the show goes on to a third season.

I just started watching the show this week and I like it a lot, but this makes me not want to watch anymore before I get more invested than I already am. Why invest a lot into a show that has a VERY good chance of not coming back for season three knowing the producers are determined not to wrap up any stories?

  2. Grace Says:

DON’T WORRY. If they see that the numbers are not good, they will wrap up the story.
JERICHO and it’s fans just wanted another season to prove their is an audience for the show.
WATCH FRI. 9 p.m. CBS for the pilot!!
